MWANGI HUTTER ‘Close by between us’

The work of the artist couple Mwangi Hutter can hardly be separated from their authors. And it seems to me that their aspiration since they started working together it is not other but achieving a perfect alchemy. For years, inside their workshop they have been trying to produce art works in which the red coulour prevailed, what is called rubedo. The rubedo represents the final phase of the alchemic transformation, a way to achieve perfection, an absolute totality. In simple terms, this totality means the revelation of the true self, that Carl Gustav Jung named individuation. And to get to it, they use different media: sculpture, video, painting, drawings, installations… The process of the work in progress makes them decide the election of the support and not the opposite.

Through the exhibited works they formulate this major question, in which time plays a determinant role. Past, present, future, are not perhaps the different sides of a same reality? Are not ourselves dependent on yesterday and responsible for tomorrow ? Let us imagine for a moment that the human being could be assimilated to time and that this one would represent the essence of our humanity. The work of this artist couple is inscribed in the heart of that time in which living together is the only option possible. A living together that does not concern exclusively to our humanity, but to all that surrounding us, visible und invisible. All that just beside us, around us, even if we are still not conscious.
